My History with cosplay

Crymore Works originally started as an inside joke with my friends within our in-game guild. At some point, a few members began exploring game development, and it kind of sparked a trend within our group. I went along with it too, but I didn’t know what to call the studio, so I jokingly chose the name "Crymore," and surprisingly, it just stuck.

We spent several months working on our own game, creating maps, systems, and a story. We even released some music, which is still available on Spotify under CRYMORE WORKS. However, I lacked the expertise to move much further with it. I dabbled in making music, but honestly, I don’t think I did very well. Similarly with 3d modelling, although I had gotten a big commission from a friend, I sometimes wish I never took it as I felt my work was not the best that could’ve been provided.

At this point, there had been countless projects that have failed.

About a year passed, and nothing significant came from it. That’s when I took up cosplay because my sister had recommended we go to a convention nearby. I decided to go as the Pure Vessel from Hollow Knight because I knew the costume was simple to make for my first cosplay. It turned out okay… though the mask was made of drywall and was super heavy. But I enjoyed the experience. Nearly 100 people came up to me asking for photos, which really motivated me to keep going.

My next cosplay was Elster from SIGNALIS, specifically the blue and white version. I posted a picture of it in the very early stages on Twitter, and it suddenly blew up. I realized that something I created was widely recognized. I decided to add more details; arms, the neck piece, weathering, silver lines and by the time I finished, it became one of my greatest works. When I attended the London 2025 MCM Comic Con, multiple people recognized me from my Reddit and Twitter posts and someone was even inspired by my weathering style! Over 250,000 people had seen my costume by then, and it was often the first thing people saw when searching "SIGNALIS Cosplay."

Feeling somewhat burnt out afterwards from cosplay, I decided to take a short break. In the meantime, I casually made my first ARAR hat and created a free pattern and guide to help others make it themselves which was something I wanted to do as a thank you to the SIGNALIS community for helping me through a tough mental health period that year.

I also offered pre-made hats on Etsy, which took me by surprise when I received my first order. The response was overwhelming: multiple orders followed, and it was surprisingly difficult to keep up with the work.

Around this time, I fell into a very dark mental state. I can’t quite explain why, but I just wanted to keep cosplaying. I kept going in cycles where I would have so much fun at these cons with my friends and sudden dives.

I made Ekko from Arcane, and it was during that cosplay that I met a woman who asked for a picture. She was running an artist alley stall, and I didn’t realize it at first, but she would go on to become My Wife. I don’t consider myself religious, but call it Divine Intervention, she was there to help lift me out of my darkest moments.

Between that and my next cosplay, I uploaded patterns for my LSTR cosplay, which then blew up again. I received over 10 orders within a few days. I can’t put into words how proud and excited I felt. I'd never wanted to do more cosplays before.

Fast forward, I made Sledge Queen "Aila" from Decaying Winter. It was the first time I built a prop that looked perfect, it was an incredibly challenging but rewarding experience.

One day I had someone email me. They wanted to commission me to make them an ADLR costume from SIGNALIS. I accepted and got to work doing it. In the end it took me a while but that was my fault. I had procrastinated as I was worried that it wouldn't be good enough. Eventually I pushed on and sent it to him. They loved it and to this day probably my most complex SIGNALIS cosplay ever.

Around this time, I moved into a new house with my wife. Previously, I could only work on cosplays during weekends because I was away for work during the week. Now, I had a dedicated workshop space which allowed me to work every day and accelerated my progress.

I started branching into other fandoms, with my next project being Titanfall 2. I’m currently working on GATES and, during that process, received an email from a streamer with a sizable community. They wanted me to create a FLKR costume. I prototyped and designed it within a week. They loved it, and I still want to finish it myself because I loved the character’s design.

I decided I was ready to put my LSTR physical commissions instead of just the pattern in my store and I had gotten 4 orders within a month... At the same time many people had asked me to make a pattern for the legs but I had held off on it so far. That was because I felt it wouldn't work well since it originally was designed perfectly for my leg shape. However, someone who ordered one of my LSTR patterns asked me if they could commission me to make them the leg pieces too. I’ve only made the prototype so far and by the time this website comes out, chances are the piece will be released alongside the website.

As of today, 21/03/2026, I’ve made over 425 sales with 41 five-star reviews. Around 1 MILLION!!! people have seen my cosplays across Reddit, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube. I couldn’t be more grateful for the opportunities I’ve been given.

I want to thank everyone who has supported me through my darkest moments. I hope my costumes inspire others as I’ve been inspired. Thank you.
